Question:
Should immigrants entering the U.K. be allowed to go straight on to benefits?

Yes?

No?

Funny thing is, this is exactly what the criminal unelected European Union is demanding!

Whether from hubris, power-hunger or from sheer stupidity, Eurocrats are demanding that Britain stop asking immigrants to show that they won’t immediately start accessing the social security system.

As the law stands, people wishing to settle in Britain must demonstrate that they have the means to support themselves, either through work or through an alternative source of income such as a pension. The European Commission claims that this amounts to discrimination and that these immigrants should enjoy the same rights as British nationals.

So, I ask you; do you, the British People agree with this European Union Demand?

There are three romanian woman where I live and all the shop keepers are disgusted by their constant bin raiding. Yes that country has poverty but to bring those values here makes us our country look like a s### hole. They also go about smashed out of their faces as they drag off god knows what. Someones old electric bill could easily lead to ID theft for one.

It begs the question, if their getting a place to live from the council as well as benefits. What do these people have to offer our country.. After all we already have people who recycle our bins and we pay council tax for that already.

It's time to down tools and stop voting for the main parties.

It's the only way too beat the EU & this traitorous sell outs

government who no longer listen to the people. NO VOTE people!!

Nope.

No one should be allowed to claim benefits until they have worked and paid taxes here in UK for at least three years. Not even to see an NHS doctor. All must be paid for out of their own money.

Other countries outside the EU - the USA for example, demand a considerable amount obedience from would-be immigrants/settlers there - even denying them the right to work if they do not measure up and etc.

We need to get tough.

I notice that UK is the only EU members state which seems to obey every stupid rule coming out of Brussels - issued by unelected fascists.

The French and others in the EU cherry pick the bits they like and ignore what they don't like.

Let's get real. UK is a nuke power. It sits at the top table at the UN. The EU can take a running jump.

As far as I'm concerned, those fat spaghetti eaters only have themselves to blame for what's happening.

Vile evil gangsters all of them.

Slam the door hard in their faces.

I've just got back from Venice, where a waiter, a slime ball, was rude to me for no reason at my hotel. I reminded him that I had paid his wages for the next few months (£1,500) just to stay at his miserable hotel where there is no sea view and the air is thick with mosquito's.

I shall not return to Italy, where they have a three hour lunch break and the shops are all shut most of the day.

Greece is even worse - apparently everyone there wants to retire at age 50 at my expense.

Get lost.

No of course not, but there is an easy way to solve this argument, all that needs to be done is to make it mandatory that you must first pay into the system for at least two full years before you can have any state welfare benefit (unless of course your unable to work through disability), whether your British by birth or not it should make no difference.

Before you can take out, you must first put in, problem solved.

There will always be irresponsible people who will do irresponsible things, no matter what the law says, but if people young an old, British and foreign alike are made aware that the state will not come to their rescue at the drop of a hat to wipe their snotty nose's, I can guarantee you there will be a lot less people doing irresponsible things that require the state to pay for in the form of welfare benefits, a lot less.

We should all take the time to learn just what the EU is all about, I've been trying to tell people from it's onset.

"Europe's Nations should be guided toward the Superstate without their people understanding what is happening.

This can be accomplished by successive steps, each disguised as having an economic purpose, but which eventually and irreversibly lead to Federation."

No they should not. I had to wait 6 months before i could claim when I started work. I got caught out with a 'flu bug about 4 months into it and was not eligible.

Clamp down on that and you will see immigration drop off to the genuine refugee or those who want to live here and work. It's time we told the EU to do the impossible to themselves instead of doing it to us

An immigrant who has not already arranged a job in the UK should definitely not be allowed even past the UK immigration desk. It is disgraceful the way we are being treated , forcing real British people to pay for unemployed immigrants

Obviously not.

I wonder if our politicians will roll over for this one as they have for all the other nonsense the EU has foisted on us.

There is a petition on the government e petition web site asking for a referendum on EU membership, I think you know what to do.

Hi Gandhi

A basic problem with your suggestion is that Asylum Seekers in the UK aren't allowed to work. Their applications can take years to process during which time the families become welfare dependant. They have no say in where they are housed. All their utility bills are paid and they are given 70% of benefits levels. They are supported by a local Asylum Support Team.

Here in the West Midlands UK we have families who are eventually given permission to remain here who then return to their home countries for holidays.

It should be noted that many Asylum Seekers are from countries where the UK has been involved in illegal wars including Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan.

One family I worked with had their own construction business in Kosovo. They were held because of their religion, released by British soldiers who advised them to claim Asylum in the UK.

We also have the people smugglers who rack up millions of pounds as they trade in people's fear and misery.

I don't know what the answer is here but we brutalise our own society if we turn away hungry and fearful migrants to out shores.

Best wishes.

We already have that for EU immigrants... I think that people should be allowed a few weeks to find their feet (that goes for Brits and immigrants) then they should find a job. The whole benefit system needs an overhaul.

No - sorry, I am UK and consider myself European BUT, benefits are supposed to be a stopgap to aid those less needy - now I know we have lots of UK born citizens who believe it is okay to milk the system and use benefits as a right - but it isn't a right, its a priviledge. It used to be shameful to claim - now, its commonplace. So, on to immigration - surely if you have made no contribution you should not be allowed to reap the rewards from our taxpayers, the same goes for UK born citizens too. Harsh but true. Leave the EU, it makes sense alas!
2011-08-04 13:15:17 UTC
No they should get nothing, i don't agree with the EU at all. Better still this includes economic migrants as well. No job no accommodation no skills you aren't getting in unless you have enough money to see you through six months of unemployment. Funds gone not out problem home they go.

Immigration is a problem in Britain already, never mind basically paying immigrants to come here and live of tax payers money.

Contrary to popular convention, to receive Jobseekers allowance in the UK you have to show adequate proof that you are looking and applying for work every two weeks when you sign on. Part of this proof requires that you provide evidence of having made at least 3 job applications per week. If you're still claiming Jobseekers allowance after 6 months then the government will place you on the Work Program and force you into unpaid employment for either private or public sector with no extra money, or your benefits are stopped. The idea that we simply hand out money to people who have no intention of working is becoming rather old. You'll discover that for yourself when the recession puts you out of a job and you have to claim benefits.

So, you are suggesting that immigrants (who still have to show they are able to support themselves before entering this country) should not have the same rights as everyone else, effectively becoming second class citizens. The European Union has never stated that we should have an open door policy on immigration and let just anybody in, despite what you are trying to hint at. What you are stating is basically misleading and inflammatory.

It's very telling that the video link you posted has comments disabled. It's also interesting that the same video is advocated by the BNP (British National (Nazi) Party), who's leader, Nick Griffin MEP, is on record as having stated all immigrants should be put on boats, cast into the English channel and bombed. Personally I hope one day he catches his wife in bed with Ainsley Harriet.

Nice try, but the BNP will never be more than a fringe party for disgruntled knuckleheads who like to blame everyone else for their own failings. Add your post to that long list. Getting your BNP buddies to add supportive comments and thumb down people who disagree with you won't make any difference.

Jealousy of the poor is pathetic.

when you create refugees in the world through your political and military actions, you bear some responsibility for their well-being.
