what do you know about the fate of Tamilnadu Govt's 14.67 lakh free electric motor pumpset scheme to farmers?

It is said that the govt deviated from the traditional practice of protecting the interests of small manufacturers also and fixed norms of 450v motors with three stars (depicting saving in power consumption - star 3 denotes a 10% saving over ISI marked limit) which small industries cannot supply! The President of Kovai Power Driven Pumps and Spares Manufacturers Association says (Dinamani article dated 10th January):

Further Govt stipulated the minimum asset worth of tenderers to be Rs 15 crores, annual sales value at Rs 30 crores and minimum number of employees as 100 workers! The tenderer should pay Rs 10 lakh as cash deposit and Rs 5 lakh woth bank security! This would eliminate any role for the small industry in the scheme.

Due to further stipulations on complex payment procedures (based on savings in consumption at Rs.3.65 per unit), even big industries did not offer rates. Besides people sensed malafide motives in the conditions imposed, to wean potential bidders and went to High court, where the govt did not argue its case but offered to withdraw the Tender notice!

It hastily announced another scheme for free power connection for two lakh motor pumpsets ''fitted with 4 star'' motors, installed ''within a month'' of announcement! This resulted in acute shortage of market stock and hike in prices by 50% which the poor farm community had to incur to avail the power connection which they had been waiting for years!!

How do you like this game of ''freebies'' played by govt on poor small and marginal farmers?

I feel ashamed to reply as follows.....

Kamaraj introduced Mid day meal to promote education then.

But its the mind set of our people to take such things in a negative way.

The pleasure of enjoying the Freebies starts right from Childhood example Mid day meal!!! Sorry to write so , but its a fact that the mindset of people started to change. MGR took the fruit of it, I do not want to take away any credit out of MGR, but still this Mid day meal plan did help MGR to win election.

M.K did give cycles to school going kids, if taken in a right way - it is good to motivate education, but instead WE too have taken it as political move to gain votes. But M.K did give bicycle to Priest, so even OUR Perception is not wrong!!! My family is not below average income group, but still my Mom wanted to get the free T.V provided by M.K ( i strongly objected and denied to avail it ). The mind set of people has to change rather than blaming the politicians alone!!! Many of whom i know ( the average income not less than Rs.25,000 - and do have a own home ) have got this Free T.V. which is really annoying. Let the councilor or Party man give it, but its the people who accept it and just blame the politicians!!!! Pathetic. Free current and Pump set is also a welcome move, but it is used wrongly - Yes many farmers need it, but the way it is distributed and got is the real problem. Yes there are chances to see SUN pump set company coming up something like Sun or Kalaingar T.V channel or Film production company. But it is the attitude of the people which hast to change.

Its only a matter of time, people has to understand - politicians are just elected ( some thing like official ) to regulate & spend the money (- the revenue paid by us) in a right way for the upliftment of every one. - A BASIC CIVIC EDUCATION IS A MUST TO develop such sort of attitude. ( i remember one of a learned professional said to me " its our money the govt is spending, so you wrongly took a decision not to accept the freebie (T.V), and you are not understanding that even if you do not get one, someone is going to get the same in your name")---- ALAS when is the attitude going to change
