Does an American know about Tamils or Tamil cultures or Rich traditions of Tamil people?

Because of one American can we say all americans are fools?

Knowing fully the strike of railway staff, why not the Rich country's citizen did not fly from Delhi to orissa?

The United states vice-cousul Mauree Chao gave an unwanted comment saying Tamils are ugly and dark. i am interested to know what will be her comment when she visit Africa?

Tamils:

1. They stood in front for free india.

2. No poet still date equal to Bharati.

3. No poet equal to one Kambar.

4. No one equal to Tiruvalluvar who gave the world in one and half line.

5. Shelly, wordsworth, Shakspeare etc.,should learn more from Tamil poets.

6. Today Hinduism is standing on top in the world for which Tamils Azhwars, Nayanmars, Avvaiyar, and Tiruvalluvar etc.,poet's contributions are unlimited.

7. Because of Adi shankara the hinduism got strong otherwise this india will be a Bhuddhist country.

8. The contributions of tamil kings to the language, devotion, temples are unlimited and no country's kings, or chakravarti's never did in the past.

9. The Tamils only spread the Bakti culture all over india.

10. God Shiva himself presided over Tamil Sangam and no god presided in any other language.

The racist remarks by anyone are unwelcome. But remark by a person cannot be generalized.as those of all Americans.



As regards whether Americans know about Tamil, the fact is that you know some community only when you travel to the particular region and come in contact. Most Americans are in U.S.A. and they are not supposed to have first hand knowledge of various states and communities in India just as most Indians are unaware of even the names of states in U.S.A.

The question should be why she even made the comment and in what manner of context in the "whole" she made the description. What was actually said AND inferred before the comment and after her remark. Some people don't think about the impact of what they say can actually mean. If she didn't like Tamils, she shouldn't have made a public announcement of comparing herself to one in the first place. I don't excuse racism at all.

Regretfully many people are very ignorant and not tactfull. Evidently, she was one of them.

As for knowing about the Tamil culture, I would learn of it, if I were visiting the country. But I don't think just because I am American, I need to know about every culture in the world. I can pretty much bet Tamils don't know anything about my own ethnic culture.

Reading too much into an un intentional remarks made by Maureen Chao is a Vice Consul with the U.S. Consulate General Chennai about Tamils will only hurt the feelings of Tamils; and US consulate in a statement put up on its website, said: "Yesterday (Friday) at a Study Abroad Orientation Program at SRM University, Vice Consul Maureen Chao gave a speech describing positive memories from her own study abroad experiences in India 23 years ago."



Amazingly the students themselves took little notice of Chao’s surprisingly undiplomatic remark, it were the local press which picked it up.





"During the speech, Ms. Chao made an inappropriate comment. Ms. Chao deeply regrets if her unfortunate remarks offended anyone, as that was certainly not her intent."



As US Secretary Hillary Clinton recently noted, the US-India partnership was based on shared values of democracy, liberty and respect for religious and cultural diversity, the Consulate release said.



"The U.S. Consulate in Chennai and the U.S. Mission in India are committed to upholding these shared values", it said.



We should accept her apology and the matter should end there itself; and there are bigger issues to take care of than this.



Sometime back even the noted actor Jayaram made an inappropriate remark about Tamil woman and tendered an apology for his unintentional remark and that was accepted.



We Tamilians have rich culture to forgive even the worst enemies/ crimes against us. Super Star Rajini is a role model in this.



Great Tamil Saint Thiruvalluvar has said” 'one should make the evil doers shy by doing good to them and forget both (doing good and forgetting the evil done)



Let us be like that and accept the apology tendered by the US diplomat and forget the whole episode.

My colleague once was talking about a person.

He was repeatedly telling that person was black like me

Our boss and his family were there.

All of them are fair complexioned North Indians except me.

I am pucca kallu.

My boss wife didn't like it and came to my rescue.

She commented rather lied that I was not black but fairly fair.

Of course it was very consoling that time.

Now my wife and children are fair but my daughter is teasing me that I am black.

Modern day north Indians are mostly nominally hindus ( muslims by culture ) . Hindi is a indo islamic language that came into existence due to islamic invasions , is full of words in Arabic , Persian , Chagatai , Turkish - Most north Indians dont even know about this .
