A lawyer or politician,or TV talker host, have not had to go through the hell of a steel worker , coal miner, health care worker,or trash collector. Just get more worker paying into the system

Trouble brewing for Americans . Just coming off a 70 year roll . There is a rough adjustment period on the horizon. After a few generations of teeth gnashing most will adjust to a 1840 standard of living.

Trash collectors are city employees and if they put enough time in qualify to collect a pension. Health care workers work more private companies that may offer a retirement plan like a 401K or even a pension which again if you stay with the company long enough you are entitled to collect on after retiring. I figure steel and coal workers are also offered retirement plans from whatever company they work for. The raising of the retirement age is a way to save social security which today is pretty much obsolete since most jobs in both the private and public sectors offer retirement packages.

This is an exaggeration that is out of synch with facts. Many workers do not want to retire at age 65, and would prefer to stay on if they've been with the company or on the job for many years. For them, forced retirement is depressing.

The proposal to raise people's retirement age to 69 is not "until death" as you suggest, and this increase would be phased in over a ten-year period based on what has been proposed by the "Deficit Commission" so far. The exceptions to the rule, as discussed on MSNBC today, would be for manual laborers or persons in failing health for whom continued working would constitute a hazard. This measure might not be needed if the Bush/Cheney/GOP tax cuts for the wealthiest 2% of Americans that were NOT PAID FOR simply are allowed to expire on schedule, because then we'd have more than $700 in REVENUE instead of DEFICIT-ADDITIONS! If we increase our nation's REVENUES, our National Debt and our Deficit are reduced, thus eliminating the need for draconian cuts in social programs. As the Obama team and the Democrats struggle to get more and more foreign markets open to receiving American-made exports from President Obama's green-energy technologies initiative (see recovery.gov), new MANUFACTURING JOBS will be the result, rebuilding the manufacturing base we LOST because of fiscally insane and greed-driven GOP third-world OUTSOURCING!
