Question:
Is Britain still powerfull?

I'm talking generally. from trade to industries right through to armed forces. I have heard that London is still a major player in the banking industry, possibly more important to the world than New York - is this true? Is the British pound really the strongest currency?

If Canada suddenly got attacked by America, would every other country in the Commonwealth including England drop what their doing and fight against America? I'm just using America and Canada as an example, I'm not anti American :)

All ideas, further questions and answers are welcome!

No the EU has absolute power and is a dictatorship on the soviet model. On 1st January 2009 the Lisbon Treaty removed the last 20%, ie all remaining power, from our Westminster Parliament, which became defunct on that day. It will continue the charade for the EU's sake, to conceal the truth from the carefully dumbed down British Public.

Yes. We're one of only a handful of nuclear powers, have one of the best trained armies in the world, and have powerful military alliances (such as NATO). As you say, London is more important to the banking sector than New York or Tokyo, though it also has stock markets that are generally only just behind these two in terms of importance. I don't think the pound is the strongest currency, but that doesn't really matter as long as you have a strong import/export market and so on. We're still the 5th (I think) largest economy in the world, too. The UK is still only one of five countries with a permanent seat on the UN security council, and as much as everyone takes the piss out of the UN, this is still a powerful and important position. So yes, Britain is still powerful. Not as powerful as some other countries, but more influential and powerful than most.

As to Canada and America, that would be complicated because of NATO. The Commonwealth is now more of an economic alliance, rather than a military one, so we couldn't count on help from all the commonwealth countries. I think it would take a lot for the UK to fight against America - after all the US is one of our most important allies, so I can't really see it happening.

But yeah, I think British is undeniably still powerful.

Yes if the only thing you count as powerful is the stink coming out of our so-called houses of Parliament. That din of inequity with all the corruption, theft, and lies is definitely the most powerful in the world and has been absolutely so for the last 3 decades at the least.

The electorate doesn't seem to care enough or are too propagandised to change it.

As the song says, "There will always be an England". Yes, you are and will still be a powerful nation. (As long as you don't let the people pushing for Sharia law over there take away all of your freedoms).

Although we disagreed with how we were treated in 1776, we Americans know where we got most of our ideas for our laws from, and that is why we made sure to make an ally of you as soon as possible.

As for your hypothetical question about Canada, I would expect Britain to try to help. But that would never happen. Despite what you see and hear, most Americans love and respect Canada, and are grateful for the friendship and support both countries give us.

This question is relative.

In the World as a player we are falling back as others grow their Industrial base. England/UK Plc. has it's place, however, without a growing industrial base & with liberal bureaucracy it's over for the UK.

It was for the same for the Romans in Rome, they got to Liberal & eventually there was no One left to fight the wars due to health & safety & the cost of policing endlessbureaucracyy, there was no One left who would put themselves with their community first. The Liberal UK preaches one doctrine but encourages ever man for himself mentality & in real life it's reality. UK's direction is going continually back to where it started the same questions & has been for at least the last 10 years form a period 30 years ago.

Enjoy your opinion while you can still mention it. 1984 came & stayed just no One can questions it aloud without being bullied into obscurity.

powerful not anymore, were a joke of europe and the world. unregulated mass immigration chronic unemployment due to mass immigration and the recession no heavy industry or export trade. we import people to live of benefits we give billions away in public money as aid to countries who can afford nuclear weapons but expect us to look after their own people to feed them and give emergency aid. if the usa did attack canada dont expect the commonwealth to back them up, the commonwealth is only in name not a real cooperative. britain would back canada but get its asss kicked

No. It's a shadow of its former self. No one outside of the commonwealth listens to Britain anymore.

to a point and Canada will never be attacked by The US as they depend on each other too much

As a brit I can safely say: NO.

Britain pretends to still be a power and sucks up to the US, but it is over. The pound is generally pretty weak, and its the USA, China, India and N.Korea now.

If that happened the UK would just um and er.

Yes, it is still powerful, but its influence is on the wane.

Britain still has the sixth largest economy in the world, after the US, China, Japan, Germany and France.

As far as military strength goes, it is still moderately powerful. And it is part of the world's largest military alliance, NATO.

It lacks projection though, and would have some difficulty these days defending the Fawkland Islands from Argentina.

We would ABSOLUTELY drop everything to fight against the Americans.

(if that's what the Americans told us to do)

Complete bullock the Uk has hardly no industries left we are nearly bankrupt the same for the US they own a lot of money if you did some research.
