i've been practising my driving down country lanes as i have my test soon. But get confused down country lanes where the spped limit changes alot. it would start as a 30mph zone then there will be no signs, no street lights but the word 'slow' written on the road...what is the speed limit?? obviously i wouldnt travel at 60mph down these roads as i wouldnt think it would be safe to do so (with my limited experience of driving down these roads ) but on my test i don't want to be speeding if its a 30/40 mph zone with no signs down?? HELP!!!

In England the national speed limit is 60mph That's the speed you can do when you see a white circular plate with a black band going diagonally across it.

Now that you know the national speed limit is 60 ..This is unless its stated otherwise... eg 20 or 30 in a built up area such as a town or housing etc... Then you have signs for.40 or 50 usually on open roads or country lanes.... We are not talking motorways, just normal roads. And we are not talking about heavy goods vehicles.

One way to remember this... ( You are allowed to do 60 mph unless you are told otherwise by the signs.. Get It.! But these are the maximum speed limits.... You dont have to do the maximum if the road conditions wont allow it.

Your last sign was 30 mph so that is what you do untill you see another sign with another speed limit or the national speed limit sign which will be 60 mph.

==============================================

As for the thumb down........Read the MOT Driving Manual you will see that I am correct.. Thats why they give a National speed limit. I have years of experience as an Instructor and an examiner...

Ignore the people who have not noticed that you have posted in YA UK & Eire.

Just as Kevin posted, in the UK the national speed limit applies if there are no signs indicationg otherwise. The national speed limit varies according to type of vehicle and type of road, but it is all clearly stated in the Highway Code.

Basically if in a car without a trailer then:

Motorway or dual carriageway without street lighting - 70 mph

Single carriageway without lighting - 60mph

Any road with street lighting except a motorway - 30mph.

Rather confusingly, the presence of 'National Speed Limit' signs on lamp posts indicates that the lights should be ignored - the limits apply which would in the absence of lighting (60 for 70 for a car).

The clue is in the question. You say that you started in a 30mph limit, and have not passed any signs, therefore, the limit must still be 30mph. This will remain then limit until you pass a sign telling you otherwise.

Where you see SLOW written in the road, this is usualy a warning to decrease your speed for a particular hazard such as a bend, or possibly something beyond. Good practise is to always take noticeand act accordingly.

I would strongly advise you to study your highway code a little more, and possibly buy a god publication such as the driving manual. good luck.

The speed limit on these types of roads is 60 mph unless otherwise stated. I agree with you that in most cases it would be dangerous to drive at this speed.

Look in the real world.

Decode this lyrics " You'll see "

"It's up to you"

As beginner?

Like what the sign says?

Can the sign be wrong?

What if at high speed and still do not know how to control it in emergency?

What will happen?

Suddenly a cow shoot out across the road and got hit?

Who will pay for the damages done?

The cow or the driver?

Can the farm animal read the road sign?

Who is better educated?

The cow or the driver?

How about normal cruising speed?

Luke 21.30-36

Luke 24.44-45,47-48

Leviticus 26.13

Revelation 22.13-17

What do you think?

There are "general" speed limits for various types of roads and locations.

These vary from state to state, and are in the motor vehicle code book for your state.

Under NO circumstances should you drive faster than conditions allow for safe handling, no matter what is posted as the speed limit.

NOTE: You will probably find some very strange rules in the code book that do not seem to make much sense. At least I have found it so in almost every state.

C.O. Jones is correct. Every state has a regulation stipulating the speed limit on unposted roads. In my experience it is between 25 and 35 mph. It should be in your driver's manual that you should be studying for the test.

Consult the Highway Code. National speed limit varies...it is 60mph for a car, but can be 50 or even 40 for larger vehicles and LGV's. This is for the UK. It's different elsewhere.

In TN the speed limit is 55 unless posted otherwise

Unless otherwise posted:

60 mph is the limit for a primary highway outside an urban area.

50 mph is the limit on a non primary highway outside an urban area.

35 mph is the limit for a residential road or gravel highway.

On such an important matter . can I suggest you check the highway code & your driving instructor

As you will notice from the many different answers given by the many YA barrack room lawyers Sorting out the facts is an almost impossible feat

60 MPH is the national speed limit, but you have to drive to conditions, the highway code states that you must be able to have the braking distance to what you can see in front. So if you went around a blind bend at 60 and hit a cyclist it would be your fault for not being able to stop to conditions of the road. Often you can only safely do 40 so it is all down to safe speed. 60 MPH limit is the limit for the entire road whatever it is a long wide straight or not.

You always want to go the speed of the last sign you saw. However if you are not sure at all, the safest speed to travel is 45mph.

I usually go 45-55 mph. And if I decide to go faster, I always keep an eye open for speed traps, I rarely do it at night though since I can't see if I a cop is hiding around the corner.

60 mph, but you drive at a safe speed for the conditions.

when the needle stops moving you've hit the speed limit, especially on country roads !! =)

If a road is not posted that you can assume the speed limit is 55 mph.

usually when you dont see any sign for the speed limit, it is said you should travel at 35 mph. i read it in my dmv hand book and learned it through drivers ed as well.

i hope this helps

if you've driven off the road, you were going too fast
?

Unless an area is residential, assume it's 35.
