I think that anyone that receives government welfare assistance should have their expenditures monitored. I want to know where and how MY MONEY is being spent... Seriously, I get taxed to death, ****, my trust fund is even getting ******* taxed under obama now. Yet I see people with no jobs living in two story plastic habitat for humanity houses, having spinners on their cars, driving escalades, wearing brand new 150 dollar air jordans... AND ALL THESE PEOPLE ARE GETTING GOVERNMENT ASISSTANCE! I KNOW this because where I work, a lot of clients are on welfare and I see them wearing 150 dollar shoes?!?1 and they have 2 thousand dollar wheels? Yet they can't buy diapers for there baby?

Absolutely you must show how the money is used and how much you've saved for your child is you receive a Social Security death benefit (1 or both parents deceased)annually . And that money was paid into SS by the deceased. Why not welfare? As for your additional details your right we are being out bred and that's exactly how the Dem's have taken control .

daipers and food come from food stamps or wic checks which can only be used for non taxable grocery items. I worked at a grocery store. Section 8 housing is paid straight by the govt i think and the land lord has to accept this form of payment. he may even have to accept the governments price but knows he gets a steady govt check as a slum lord. doesnt have to worry about them missing their rent. people can get cash and they can spend it stupidly. it doesnt necessarily mean they get more. if he buys 150$ sneakers when he gets 600$ cash a month. thats not bad, i'd like some free money. but he will have to sacrifice something because he brought those sneakers.

Some people are disabled, they get the food stamps to buy food and a small allowance for entertainment and quality of life. if they go see movies or if they stay home and knit but buy 100$ sneakers thats their choice.

People do take advantage of the system. If you live in the ghetto and have spinners. you probably sell drugs and do more than scam the govt. not to mention in such a lifestyle that there are common and developed ways to live off the welfare system or be addicted to it.

you're all complaining about your trust fund. some of these people really do need welfare. they never had a trust fund. some of them broke their backs building your house.

I'm fine with some amount of monitoring but if people are on welfare and they should be then there should be an amount alloted to the miscelaneous category for clothing, entertainment a glass of beer or a bottle of wine now and then. If they shouldnt be on welfare in the 1st place and are just taking advantage then of course they shouldnt get any of it.

From what i hear most on unemployment at least are required to look for so many jobs a week and might even need to get the hiring person to sign off that they had an interview. which probably makes you look bad. but the laborers who i would imagine usually take unemployment their bosses might like the fact that they're hungry and willing to haul steel around on their back in desperation.

Very well could have stolen the wheels too and the shoes. got a hand me down or gift from a girl. he sat out and wrenched on his ride all day long in the trailer park. pulled some spinners out of the junk yard, sanded them down shined them up.

That's the way to go Slick!

And the answering party who said decrease welfare yearly, would be a great way to go also.

Did you know that we pay 90% + of housing costs for welfare recipients, though section 8 housing?

I knew someone who had a condo using section 8. She ask 500.00 a month for rent. The woman who rented it paid 50.00, the remaining 450.00 was sent directly to the owner from the state. This renter drove a new pricey car, she had one child, and had a great paying job. She didn't sit at home like most, but her income should have been enough to pay the low rent on the place and supported her small child without assistance.

I would like to see all who misuses welfare monies (of all kinds) to have to pay it back to the state.

If anything, I feel there needs to be a limit on how many kids welfare recipients can bring into this world.

If a person is on welfare after the first child, I feel 3 is the max the tax payers should be contributing towards.

More than 3, that person is SOL with getting more benefits.

Absolutely. As the system is all we are doing is encouraging millions more to become 100% dependent on those Americans that work for a living. In addition there should be mandatory random drug testing for all welfare recipients.

I think welfare should be abolished. If you're having a large family and can't support it, why should the government give you money for something in which you know you're going to have trouble supporting?

Hmmm like something that can stop welfared smokers from buying cigarettes bc they need to use that money to buy food or home furnishings or things for their children? Yes, there should be something to knock some sense into people.

I think that the expenditure of companies which were bailed out by the government by billions should be monitored more than those on welfare.

To an extent but I think that Welfare should decrease every year you are on it till ultimately you are self sufficient.

I want some of the welfare that you're talking about. All I see are food stamps and social security.

wouldn't THAT increase government

hiring all the watchdogs

but I do think that welfare abuses cost us all dearly and that welfare fraud should be targeted and prosecuted fully

I agree, it should be done, but even if it was done, there are dishonest people and problems will still be slipping through the cracks.
2009-07-14 17:38:13 UTC
Do you want your taxes increased to pay for the monitoring?
2009-07-14 18:05:11 UTC
It would cost more to monitor them than the money they get!
2009-07-14 17:38:14 UTC
maybe
