when it was much worse under labour

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/1564668.stm

they have destroyed the NHS in Wales (where they are currently in power,

Our last labour government blew £250,000,000 on private surgery because their NHS was so bad.

They lumbered the NHS with vast PFI repayments which are coming out of Foundation trusts and straight into the pockets of the private sector. £50 Billion's worth of loans which will cost us £300 Billion in repayments-genius!

Labour always out-point the Tories on health because the voting public don't think you can ever over spend on the NHS, and that a 10% spending hike automatically means a 10% improvement.

But you can also get a 10% improvement by re-arranging things and implementing efficiencies and reforms. When the Tories do this it inevitably leads to the unions squealing and lefties trotting out their "they're privatising the NHS, nasty Tories!" spiel.

Personally I care more about good house keeping than scoring easy party-political points by playing Ghandi.

It's easy for Labour to make a virtue of the money they've blown because if anyone challenges it the headlines then rip them to bits for "planning drastic health spending cuts".

In addition to her health reforms, the Tories also increased health spending in terms of %age of GDP by 30% between 1980-1990 (in case you're interested).

Is that the best you can come up with. Your first link is from 2001 and considering the lack of investment by the Tories then I'm not surprised it hadn't improved everywhere in the space of 3 to 4yrs. The NHS under Labour was far better than it ever was under the Tories. Waiting times had dropped dramatically and many new hospitals had been built, along with NHS walk in centres being opened all over the country. I agree that PFI is not an ideal way of funding anything, but you should also mention that the Tories were the first to start using PFI in 1992. PFI allows the government to fund works without paying full costs at the start. There was a huge amount of investment needed in our NHS, due to its neglect under the Tories.

As for private NHS treatment, they was a certain percentage under Labour, but that percentage is going through the roof under the Tories.

In Wales it seems to be a bit of a disaster.

However, in 1997 the Tories has spent the previous years destroying the NHS. Labour came in and put money into it. There was an MRSA problem in the hospitals which had to be sorted out too, which would never have happened had the Tories not tried to destroy the NHS.

There is a saying on the 2 pound coin "standing on the shoulders of giants", it means you build on the successes of those before you. Now when you are building on rubble, there is always going to be a problem. You can't just throw money at the NHS, you need to change it, mould it, make it as it used to be. There are always going to be problems with this.

Now we reached 2010 and the Tories come back in again and set about destroying it again. Of course it's going to be worse under Labour, as they've got into power at the pinnacle of the Tories' destruction, and the Tories get in at the best point in the NHS.

Whatever mistakes Labour made, they wanted to make the NHS the best. The Tories are using it to make them and their friends rich. They send off patients to have the same care under private for 15% more of the cost than under the NHS. This is supposedly "efficiency", now, anyone can tell you that paying 15% more for the same thing is NOT efficient.

Tories spent out of the N.H.S budget two billion pounds for the top down reorganisation of the N.H.S. allowing American health companies to come to cherry pick and making a fortune and also donate to the tory party like the sell off of the blood transfusion service sold to Mitt Romney's company An american conservative The last Conservative Government started PFI in the NHS and doing it again with prisons. You should stop listening to spin and maybe listen to the people who work in the N.H.S

PFI is unknown to most of the public. It is an issue that is never raised. Thank you for highlighting it.

PFI was used to build and improve Hospitals which they then had to pay back out of the income given to them to 'care for patients'. I work for the NHS and most of these cost's are not spoken about. That's what's running the NHS into the ground.

I have a lot of respect for the NHS, I think many of their hospitals (not all) but a good many try their best.

However, I think they are heavily understaffed and manipulated by the people in Westminster, not to mention competing with the private health firms.

As for the Tories, I think all 3 major political parties are retards and have a way of scapegoating each other and avoiding the public's best interest.

Wow, a Tory graph blogger as your source!!

If you don't think closing 3 A&E s in South London ; giving 19 out of 21 contracts to their private industry friends and cutting the money to the NHS then your just a conservative troll.

because labour voters don't like facts........ yes we blame labour, I also blame Philpot for killing his children..... call me old fashioned.

LABOUR DESTROYED THIS COUNTRY...... HERE'S HOW.

1. they start taxing at £6,500........ compared to the coalition's £9.,500..if they represented the working man why tax low-paid workers so harshly forcing them onto benefits as they are better off on them?????)

2. they didnt regulate the banks in 13 years. (Blair now a banker- and he started the new labour movement…..hmmmm)

3. more tax has been paid by top earners EVERY year under the coalition than ANY under labour.

4. They want to increase debt BY £3,200 per person

5. spend 11% more than they take in tax.

6. they destroyed our economy.

7. they want to continue to send 57million a day to the EU

8. they want higher immigration

9. they have destroyed the NHS and had loads of gagging orders (STILL OPERATING ON WISTLE BLOWERS AS WE SPEAK!!!!!!)

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/10137029/Speaking-out-cost-NHS-whistleblower-his-job.html

these other idiots hate inconvenient facts. Lord knows why they protect labour. makes no sense, just as religious people defend their gods based on faith, pathetic really.

10. they raid the pensions.

11. Iraq+Afghanistan.

12.They sold off 400 tons of UK gold reserves and invested the money elsewhere (including in euros, compare the change in the value of gold to the change in the value of the euro in recent years if you have some free time).

13. run by the unions

14. They bloated the welfare budget.

15. They didn't keep up with house building when demand rocketed, allowing house prices to triple

16. They failed to build a lot of necessary infrastructure such as power stations.

17. they didn't invest in manufacturing (despite borrowing 1 trillion and taking 13 years of tax)

18. They continually increased fuel duty, harming motorists.

19. They signed the Lisbon treaty, giving vast amounts of power to the EU and going against their own manifesto in with they specifically said they would give the people a referendum.

20. Allowing rich people to buy peerages.

21. Started HS2

22. And the icing on the cake, they left us with the largest budget deficit in the G20 relative to GDP.

As for the Labour Party right now, they've opposed every cut that aims to tackle the deficit their party created and are not offering a plan of what they would do differently. Apart from keeping all the cuts (which they are opposed to)

It is just politics.

The fact is that the UK is overspending on its nationalised industries such as health and welfare.

This is why both parties are praising the fools who are paying for all the largess and waste with their taxes: the hard working families.

Cause the Tories believe NHS is for the unworthy and they should be grateful for whatever they get.
2013-10-11 16:03:46 UTC
How come the tories can't do anything except blame Labour forever?
