Ronny: First, I object to the exclusion of “Liberal Hippies” from the forum you propose to create. I happen to be one of those Liberal Hippies and I’m damn proud of it; and no, not all of us spent our waking hours during the '60s and 70s in a drug-induced stupor, despite what you may think.
That said, I strongly agree with you about the dubious quality of responses in these forums.
While there are notable exceptional contributors, overall the accuracy, cogency, clarity, and intellectual probity of the answers that are posted on these boards leaves much to be desired. I am especially shocked by the poor understanding of the basic role and functions of government and the working of the political process in particular among both responders and askers in that forum. With levels of ignorance this high, is it any wonder we elect people like George Bush? (Oops! Sorry…it’s my Liberal Hippie coming out. Can’t help myself! I digress.)
At least those who ask questions are able to acknowledge what they don’t know and are willing to learn the answer…especially if someone else spoon feeds it to them. Unfortunately, when the answer on the spoon is patently wrong, or lacking in insight, or when it reflects an inability to read or understand what is being asked, or is written incomprehensibly, you have to wonder if the asker might just be better off remaining ignorant.
Then there are those infrequent responses which appear to be clearly a cut above the rest: articulate, accurate, responsive, informed...all the qualities you hope to see in a response, until you discover that the responder has shamelessly expropriated the content from some other source without proper attribution (i.e., plagiarized), and the next thing you know, the personal integrity and ethics of forum participants are also cast into doubt.
Ugh...What's a Liberal Hippie to do?!
Anyway...if you decide to strike out on your own, let me know. And if it’ll make you feel any better, I’ll be happy to submit to a drug test as a condition of admission. But I ain't givin' up my Liberal Hippie-ness, not for that, not for anything! Regards!
