Hello I'm 27 year old single mother, with my first child.

When I went to the state building here in Alaska, they told me I had to go to My Native health care to get welfare. I told them it is my religion to breastfeed until two years of age. they told me I do not qualify because I'm not available for full time work. Same with the unemployment.

I just started getting food stamps a year ago after I had baby from the State building. The lady at the native health welfare office said I have to use a breast pump because she does.

Why can a couple with a baby get welfare if one parent is working? But not a single breastfeeding mother? I'm struggling here and get no child support. Please help!

We all make choices in our lives and have to live with the consequences. What is more important? To breast feed your baby or receive financial support? You apparently can't have it both ways. No sense complaining about it. Maybe your religion will support you.

You want the government to support you yet you don't want to follow the steps necessary. If you use a pump, your child still gets breastmilk (breastfeeding).

Face it, once your child is two years of age, you will STILL not want to go out and get a job.

You should have thought of these things before you chose to get pregnant and wished the government to support you.

The fact that you breastfeed your child makes such a difference,

The baby's father is financially responsible. Check with your local District Attorney about laws regarding the financial responsibility of dead-beat dads.

You can also write a letter to that lady who ran with McCain and see what she recommends. She has experience with that situation. (tongue in cheek :*)
